THE HYPE

When The Ordinary foundation was released in mid-April last year, it was almost harder to get your hands on than Beyoncé's Lemonade album without a Tidal account.

Every time diehard Deciem fans tried logging onto the UK retailer Victoria's Health, they were constantly told 'this item is in high demand'. It was the Ryan Gosling of foundations.

But now that the 25,000 long waitlist has died down, it's readily available and will only set you back £5.90. WE KNOW.

THE REVIEW

Something magical happened. I chose my shade of foundation using nothing but Deciem online reference and it was a MATCH. This never happens! Take that, teacher who said I'd never amount to anything. Most of my foundations have a pink undertone, so I went with the shade 2.0P (P for pink). There are also yellow and neutral undertones, making it quite an extensive colour range for such an affordable product.

There are two foundation formulas; Coverage Foundation and Serum Foundation. I got both, but mama likes a lot of coverage so as soon as I shook the serum one and saw how runny the formula was, I knew I'd be trying the Coverage.

This is what it looked like after I applied it using a beauty blender. Pretty good, huh? I mean, that colour match... I started with just one pump, which did cover most of my face, but I found I needed an extra half pump for underneath my eyes and my forehead. Considering I'm not wearing any concealer or mascara, I think it looks pretty good. It wasn't as creamy as I expected, so it spread very easily.

The finish was really smooth overall, the only place it went a little powdery was my forehead, but everywhere else had a semi-matte finish. I think it might be because I applied a mattifying primer there (I usually get an oily forehead) but perhaps this foundation doesn't need it.

I loved the coverage, it hid any redness and dullness but didn't look heavy or overly done. It's sitting pretty well so far, and I haven't needed a touch-up in the last four hours. I can see my T-zone getting a little oily, but the foundation is holding firm. It just looks like my skin only brighter and even. I mean, for £5.90 I am impressed. If I didn't already know the price, I would've guessed it as being somewhere in the £9-£15 mark. It's a steal.
