Pursuit The Label Is The Sustainable Swimwear Brand Love Island's Lucie Donlan Loves

Here at GLAMOUR HQ, we're huge fans of both Love Island and all things sustainable and we've just discovered a brand that somewhat surprisingly fuses the two.

When islander Lucie Donlan stepped into the villa for the first time donning a pink swimsuit from little-known brand Pursuit the Label, it immediately sold out. Not only does its flattering fit get brownie points from us, but it's also completely sustainable. Yaaaas.

In fact, the £125 Viper Swimsuit is made from recycled ocean waste. Genius.

We invited founders Annabel Humphrey and Hannah Daykin to GLAMOUR HQ to hear a little more about the brand and how they’re changing the sustainable swimwear scene.

We started our label after realising how damaging the fashion industry is on the planet

We met at university six years ago. We met on the first day and were inseparable ever since. It was on our course that we realised how damaging the fashion industry was to the planet. So we tried different jobs in the industry and then came together one day and realised there was a gap in the market for sustainable swimwear. We realised that most sustainable swimwear was minimalistic and so we wanted to inject fashion into sustainable swimwear.

We did our research and saw that big companies like Adidas were making trainers out of recycled waste. We did more and more research and saw that they were ways to use waste and recycle it, creating a circular system. It's made from recycled sea waste so it's made from stuff like discarded fishing nets and a bunch of other unglamorous stuff.

You can't start a fashion brand without thinking about the future

I think we have now got to the point where there's no choice. You can't start a fashion brand without thinking about the future. We saw from interning and studying at university how much waste is in the fashion industry... there’s a lot of waste behind the fabrics and making too many garments.

Seeing Lucie Donlan in our piece was a dream come true

When we first launched the business we said we wanted to be on Love Island because it's so big in the UK and swimwear is worn every day. Then, a year after our brand launched, we got this opportunity so it was literally like a dream had come true.

Annabel and Hannah conclude the interview by saying how happy they feel that people are recognising a sustainable brand like theirs and we think their story should serve as a message to all fashion brands that it is possible to produce beautiful swimwear that's also sustainable.

The most important thing, however, is that Pursuit the Label will be restocking next week so we’ll race you to the checkout!
