Ellie Kemper joins 21 Jump Street

'Bridesmaids' thesp snags role in action comedy

Hot on the high heels of “Bridesmaids,” thesp Ellie Kemper has landed a supporting role in Columbia Pictures’ action comedy “21 Jump Street.”

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum star as undercover cops working the high school beat. Kemper will play Ms. Griggs, an annoyingly sincere chemistry teacher who’s attracted to Tatum’s character and surprised when she discovers he’s not a real student.

Ice Cube and Brie Larson co-star alongside Rob Riggle, Dave Franco, Johnny Simmons, Dakota Johnson, Jake M. Johnson and DeRay Davis.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing from a script by Michael Bacall (“Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World”), who co-wrote a treatment with Hill.

Kemper is best known for playing perky receptionist Erin on NBC’s “The Office,” which returns this fall sans Steve Carell.

“Bridesmaids” has grossed over $120 million at the domestic box office since opening last month, and prior to that pic, thesp appeared in the comedies “Get Him to the Greek” and “Mystery Team,” as well as Sofia Coppola’s “Somewhere.”

Kemper is repped by WME and Mosaic.
